Britain's top match angler Alan Scotthorne explains why he likes World Champion.

World Champion is the most important part of my warm weather balling-in mix. It's quite a sticky groundbait and therefore a very good carrier for loose offerings because a ball won't break up easily when they are added.

However, for extra food value, I add fluffy Van den Eynde Brown Crumb, while Damp Leam will also go into the mix to break it up once it is on the bottom and form a 'carpet' for the fish to feed over.

If I'm fishing a river like the Trent in summer, I'll mix two bags of Brown Crumb and one bag of World Champion together, slightly over-wetted, and leave it for 10 minutes before adding a kilo of Damp Leam through a maggot riddle. I'll then mix this well together again and re-riddle. The result is a groundbait that's suitable for rivers and lakes up to 15 feet deep. Roach and bream love this combination.

IDEAL USES
This is a fairly heavy mix, first developed by Marcel for the 1983 World Championship venue in Holland, which Belgium won. It's a good attractor for quality roach and chub and works best in depths of 6-12ft. A good winter groundbait, it has a fairly sticky consistency which makes it a very good carrier of loose offerings, when there's a need to get a lot of casters in a swim with only small amounts of groundbait.
